Snow days discussed

Students in Lunenburg County missed two-and-a-half days of school just after administrators made arrangements to make up a missed day on Presidents’ Day.

On Friday, the high school and middle school closed at 12:30 p.m., while the elementary schools closed at 1 p.m. as a precaution because of the threat of bad weather. The system had already decided to use Monday, as a regular school day to make up for an earlier snow day. However, due to the snow, students missed school Monday and Tuesday.

Superintendent Charles M. Berkley Jr. said students have missed two half-days and six full-days because of snow; one day and a half was because of a busted water pipe that left Victoria and the schools without water. But what will happen if students miss more days?

“No decision has been made official,” Berkley said. “Possibly during spring break, added days at the end of year, extended days or other determinations.”
