Kenbridge continues to take steps to eventually develop a walking trail.

The town is seeking to line up easements from landowners and will then move forward and seek grant money for the project.

The town has long wanted to move on the project, and at the council’s Tuesday, Feb. 16 meeting, Mayor Emory Hodges said the town should start pushing in earnest to make headway.

“We just felt like it was time to do something in Kenbridge,” he said.

The town would like to see the trail run along the old railroad bed on Broad Street to Barnes Street and have it go from Victoria to the community of Dunbas. It would be part of the Tobacco Heritage walking trail.

Kenbridge and Victoria are looking to find a way to attract more tourists to their towns and see walking trails as a possible way.

Victoria’s 21-acre railroad park is located near the downtown and central business district, and has pavilions, playground equipment, restroom facilities, volleyball sand court, horseshoe pits, paved walking trails, gravel walking trails and geo-caches to find and historical Virginian Railroad cars caboose and equipment.
