Central High School varsity baseball coach Michael Atkins is “very pleased” with his team this year and how they are responding to games.
“I like the chemistry of this team,” Atkins said. “(We are off to a)good start, but, we cannot take anything for granted. We need to continue and work hard to improve each week.”
The Chargers are ranked fourth in the James River District and hold a 3-1 record.
“The kids came back to win our home-opener against Prince Edward, followed with a road victory against Buckingham, and earning the home win with Nottaway,” said Atkins.
“Each was an important game against good teams in our district. It is always important to win your games at home and compete strong on the road. The Nottoway game was very exciting and competitive. Our kids showed a lot of character being down twice in the game.”
The team will return to action on Wednesday, when they host Charles City at 4:30 p.m.
