Central competes in JRD championships

The Central High School boys and girls track teams did not generate any points on Monday as they participated in the field events portion of the 2016 James River District Track and Field Championships at Nottoway High School.

Leading the way among the boys teams was Cumberland High School with 44 points. Chargers senior Brandon Scott placed seventh in the triple jump, and he also took ninth in the long jump. Junior Raymond Alexander took seventh in the discus throw, claimed eighth place in the triple jump and 12th place in the long jump.

Senior Brandon Williams placed eighth in the discus throw and 11th in the boys shot put. Junior Dion Graham took 10th in the boys shot put.

The leading girls team after the field events was Bluestone High School with 50 points.

Sophomore Zakiyyah Hurt placed the highest out of all Central girls competing on the day, taking eighth in both the long jump and the triple jump. Freshman Brianna Elder finished in 15th place in the discus throw and 18th place in the shot put, while senior Karen Edmondson took 17th in the shot put and 18th in the discus throw.

The running events portion of the championships is set for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Prince Edward.
