The Christmas season officially got started in Victoria on Friday, Dec. 1, as groups started marching once the sun went down. It was time for Victoria’s annual Christmas parade, held each year after dark so that residents can see Christmas lights adorned on the different floats and vehicles that drive through. 

The parade participants line up on Tidewater Avenue and go down Main Street, before making the loop. This year, Mother Nature caused problems earlier in the afternoon, delivering rain showers, but that had turned into just sprinkles by paradetime. 

ANOTHER CELEBRATION COMING 

Now this doesn’t mean the celebrations are over in Victoria. This coming Saturday, ‘A Victoria Small Town Christmas’ will be held at different points across the area. We start off with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus at BLISS of Lunenburg. That’s located at 1806 Main Street in Victoria and Santa will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., posing for free pictures. 

There will be free crafts for kids from 10 a.m. to noon at Sweet Magnolia, over at 1700 Main Street. Caroling will also start at that location, beginning at 11 a.m. 

Over at Tangled N Tanned Studios, you’ll be able to get hair tinsel for a $5 donation to charity from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., while Christmas market vendors will set up at La Victoria Mexican Restaurant, located at 1812 Main Street, beginning at 11 a.m. 

The market continues, along with a visit from a special guest, over at J & E Farmers Market, starting at 11 a.m. The Farmers Market is at 368 K-V Road and there will be farm animals to pet, Christmas market vendors and a visit from The Grinch. 

Finally, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be Christmas at the Barn, held at Lunenburg Lavender. That’s over at 1405 Fowlkes Road.
