Kisha Pearson may be struggling with adversity, but it wasn’t going to keep her from being there.

A licensed practical nurse from Kenbridge, Pearson suffered a stroke on April 16, the night of the senior prom, and has been hospitalized ever since, said Carolyn Spraggins, a cousin who grew up like a sister to Pearson.

But that couldn’t keep Pearson, 43, from being there to see her daughter, NeKeya Feggins, graduate from Central High School on Saturday — even if Pearson was in a wheelchair and on a pass from the Johnston-Willis Hospital’s rehabilitation unit.

Pearson was able to watch her daughter graduate at the 10 a.m. ceremony, but had to be back at the hospital by 4 p.m., Spraggins said.

After the ceremony, Pearson sat surrounded by her family, including her son, mother and sister; and as they all looked on, Feggins and Pearson hugged.
