One person is in custody after Saturday’s incident involving gunshots near Railroad Park. Victoria police said they were called out on the evening of Saturday, March 23, after receiving reports of gunshots near the park. Kenbridge officers and the Lunenburg County sheriff’s deputies also responded to the call, to assist.
Within minutes, the group arrived, only to find no firearms or sign they had been used in the area. However, Victoria Police Department officials say that after further investigation, with help from those other agencies and tips from citizens, a suspect has been identified in the case.
“An arrest was made, without incident, in the case and the firearm was turned over to Victoria Police,” the department said in a brief statement.
They also stated there was no indication that anyone at or around the park was at risk at any time.
“(An) investigation of the incident indicates that the shots were fired into the air and were not directed towards anyone or anything,” the statement from Victoria Police goes on to say.
Department officials added that they appreciated the help brought by the other agencies and citizens in the case. Charges are pending in the case.
