April is National Poetry Month. It encourages booksellers, libraries, poets, publishers and schools to promote the importance of poetry and its significance to society and culture. There are many types of poetry from limericks, nursery rhymes, epic, comic and tragic. Ripberger Public Library has a display called Poem in Your Pocket. Patrons are welcome to come in and take a poem to put in your pocket and share with someone else. 

In addition, we have poetry books available at both branches of the library. Children and young adults might enjoy some of these books of poetry: The Adventures of Simple Simon, America the Beautiful, Away with Words!: wise and witty poems for language lovers, Baa, Baa, Black Sheep, Baby’s Bedside Book, Emily Dickinson: Poetry for Kids, Robert Frost, Poetry for Kids, R is for Rhyme, a poetry alphabet, and Carl Sandburg, poetry for kids. 

For our more mature patrons, we would suggest the following poetry books available for checkout: Anthology of American Poetry, The World of Poetry, The Best American Poetry, The Selected Poetry of Nikki Giovanni, Maya Angelou, the poetry of being, and The Poetry of Nature. Come by and check out what we have and keep a poem in your pocket.
