It seems pretty appropriate to kick off the latest season of the Music in the Park series by holding it at Easter. After all, the holiday is a time of rebirth and renewal. And the latest edition of the popular concert series, hosted by the Town of Victoria at Railroad Park, is set to kick off with a Southern Gospel show, further connecting the two events.

So yes, Music in the Park is back, starting this Friday, April 18 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Guy Grant and the Wings of Mercy will be the first performers.

“They are a Southern Gospel band who I’m sure will resonate with our community and put on a great show,” said Town of Victoria Event Coordinator William Pernell.

Overall, there won’t be as many familiar faces taking the stage this season. Pernell shared that Music in the Park will include mostly new acts and the events will offer flavored drinks courtesy of “Get Silly Lemonade,” to help beat the heat and hot dogs from “Pippy’s Doghouse,” and other food truck favorites for dinner or an evening snack.

As for the time, you can pencil it in on a weekly basis. The music series, which began in 2017, will be held every third Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the next two months with the last event taking place on June 20 before the summer weather hits hardest. And now that doesn’t mean the music stops once the hot weather comes around. Pernell said Victoria is working on putting together indoor concerts in the future that would take place at the Victoria Community Center so locals can continue enjoying live music on the weekends during the warm months.

“I feel that residents of Victoria and our neighboring communities continue to come to these events because it’s a great reason to just get out of the house,” Pernell said. “We provide live music, dinner options, and a great chance to spend an evening with our community. Our Music in the Park’s are a great opportunity to socialize with friends, family, and loved ones.”
