The community rooms of the Lunenburg County Public Library System (LCPL). have been very active this summer displaying the art and photography of community residents.

The Victoria Public Library is currently displaying paintings by 13-year old Camille Bacon, a second-generation painter who works with oil on canvas; Sylvia Mahaney, who produces colorful pen and ink renderings; and Holly-Anne Gonzales, 15, who draws in watercolor and acrylics.

The Ripberger location displayed the photographs of Robby Batte, in color and black and white, during the month of August. Maggie Love, a resident of Pittsboro, N.C., is a painter who works with acrylic on canvas.

“Her pictures evoke the impressionist style and she has continued to paint into her 80s. All four artists are inspired by nature and LCPL is happy to provide a venue for their artistic visions,” said a recent press release from LCPL.

Upcoming displays for the community rooms include handmade quilts in November and a Christmas tree exhibit in December, with trees decorated by local merchants and organizations.

During August, the Victoria library hosted weekly movies with western themes provided by Cowboy Bobby. This activity complemented the International Day of the Cowboy event held July 23 in Victoria.

On Sept. 1, the new website for the LCPLS went live at www.lunenburglibraries.org.

“With all the back-to-school excitement in the air, the staff of LCPLS remind our patrons the resources of the library can benefit students and teachers alike achieve their academic goals. The library offers computer terminals with wi-fi access and printing and helpful staff who can suggest topics and materials for research,” stated the release.
