Victoria Fire and Rescue recognized its volunteers for their work in 2016 during a banquet held Saturday at the firehouse.
Chief Rodney Newton and Assistant Chief Chris Garrett presented the awards to the members.
Chris Parish received recognition for running the most calls during the year, totaling 213.
Andrew Cocker was honored for reaching 1,000 calls throughout his membership with the department.
The new officers for 2017 were initiated during the event. Also during the function was a “Ceremony For the Deceased.” Those in attendance honored Harvey Jeter, who died last year.
This year marks the 76th anniversary of the fire and rescue department, said Newton. “2016 was the busiest year this department has ever seen.”
Newton said the department responded to 1,130 calls in 2016 which equated to just under 5,000 man hours spent covering the calls.
Of those hours, he said 3,500 hours were performed by volunteers.
Newton said he expects this year to be a busy one as well.
