The Central High School varsity girls volleyball team was winless during the 2016 season, but a team spirit and a roster loaded with upperclassmen aim to bring victory back to the court.
“We have some real potential this season,” Lady Chargers Head Coach Lisa Word said. “I . already seen where we are more of a ‘team’ this year, and I am very excited at how well the team is working together to learn and improve.”
The 2017 squad features four seniors, six juniors and one sophomore.
Setter Brittany Tomlinson will be a key figure for Central in her senior season.
“She is our main setter this year and will have to be a leader in every play this season,” Word said.
Senior outside hitter Kaylee Williams will be one of the players Tomlinson seeks to put in a position for points.
“We are looking forward to see (Kaylee) grow even more as a hitter and become a more dynamic player,” Word said.
The Lady Chargers open the season on the road Thursday when they take on Sussex Central High School at 6:30 p.m.
They return to the court Tuesday when they host Goochland High School at 7 p.m.
