Amateur photographers of all ages are invited to enter the Lunenburg County Historical Society’s annual photography contest.

According to a press release, “photographs must have been taken within the 12 months prior to this year’s closing date: Sept. 15,” officials said in a press release. “The theme is ‘Reflections of Lunenburg’s Yesterday.’ Photographs are judged on creativity, quality and originality as relevant to the theme. Judges are professional photographers who have years of experience.”

Rules and application blanks are available at Lunenburg’s two public libraries: Ripberger Public Library, 117 S. Broad St in Kenbridge, and Victoria Public Library, 1417 7th St. in Victoria.

Completed applications must accompany all entries. There is no entry fee and no age limit; however, contestants must be amateur photographers, according to the release.

“Photos must reflect an historical aspect of Lunenburg County and must have been taken within the county within the year prior to contest closing date. There can be only one entry per person (either color or black and white). Contestants are to submit one unframed 5-inch by 7-inch print, mounted without glass covering on a mat, cardboard or poster board. The entry must be received at Ripberger Public Library or Victoria Public Library during business hours on or before Sept. 15.”

According to the release, in the 2016 contest, Burt Hurdle, of Victoria, took first place in the color photography division while Jenean Hall, of Onancock, and formerly of Victoria, was first-place winner in the black-and-white division.
