Elementary students get ‘Hooked on Learning’

Students from Kenbridge and Victoria elementary schools made their way to the Hooked on Learning Park Event on Thursday, Oct. 17. A total of 293 students and families from both schools attended after class ended for the day, along with Lunenburg staff, Central High student volunteers and community members. Tin Can Coffee and Pippy’s Dog House were both on site with food and drinks for people to buy. School district officials also thanked the staff of the Victoria Food Lion, as they donated fruit and water.

Families enjoyed the opportunity to pick out free books, thanks to donations from the Children’s Book Festival, sparking joy and excitement among children and parents alike. The event featured a variety of engaging activities and games, bringing smiles and laughter to all participants.

“We are deeply grateful to our incredible community partners for providing fantastic learning stations, including the Lunenburg Public Library System, Deur Family Petting Zoo, Town of Kenbridge, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nature Center, Virginia Master Naturalists, and Victoria Food Lion,” school district officials said in a statement. “Their contributions enriched the experience and fostered a love of learning among attendees. A special thank you to our dedicated CHS student volunteers who assisted with face painting and tattoos, adding an extra layer of fun to the evening.”
