DECEMBER 13 – JANUARY 8 

WINTER COAT DRIVE — The Kappa Rho Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is holding a winter coat drive through Jan. 8, 2024. The drop-off places are Bland-Reid Funeral Home in Farmville, Cheryl’s Beauty and Barber Shop in Dillwyn and Cumberland High in Cumberland County. Residents are asked to donate new and gently used coats, hats, gloves, scarves and other winter items for children and adults. The items collected will be donated to families in the area. 

DECEMBER 13 – 31 

BASKETBALL SIGNUPS — The Lunenburg Youth Basketball Association will hold signups from Wednesday, Dec. 6 through Sunday, Dec. 31. Early registration costs $60 per player, with a $5 discount for siblings within the same household. Forms can be picked up at Smith’s Pharmacy and Timmy’s Grocery. They can be dropped off at 7115 New Grove Road in Kenbridge. 

DECEMBER 15 

LIBRARY BOARD MEETING — The Lunenburg County Public Library Board of Trustees will meet on Friday, Dec. 15. That’ll take place at 5 p.m. at the Ripberger Public Library. 

DECEMBER 16 

COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS PARTY — The Rosewood, located at 11426 Courthouse Road in Lunenburg, will hold a Community Christmas Party with Christmas Trivia, prizes for the ugliest sweater and music from Nick Byrd on Saturday, Dec. 16. Music begins at 7 p.m. 

DECEMBER 17 

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM — Mt. Bethel Baptist Church will hold its Christmas program on Sunday, Dec. 17, beginning at 8 a.m. 

WORSHIP SERVICE — Victoria Baptist Church, located at 1423 8th Street in Victoria, will hold worship services on Sunday, Dec. 17, with Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. Dr. Tom Stocks will continue his sermons for Advent. 

GUEST PREACHER — New Galilee Baptist Church, located at 4565 Plank Road in Kenbridge, will feature Rev. Angela Dickens from Blackstone as guest speaker for the Sunday, Dec. 17 service. Service starts at 11 a.m. 

SPECIAL CHURCH SERVICE — Gilfield Baptist Church in Kenbridge will hold a ‘Wear Your Favorite Football Jersey’ service on Sunday, Dec. 17. The service begins at 11 a.m. 

CHRISTMAS PLAY — Oak Grove Baptist Church will hold their annual Christmas Play on Sunday, Dec. 17, beginning at 5 p.m. This year’s play is entitled “The Christmas Nativity”. 

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM — Victoria Baptist Church, located at 1423 8th Street in Victoria, will hold their annual Christmas program at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17. 

DECEMBER 23 

CHRISTMAS DINNER — The Victoria Church of the Nazarene will hold a community Christmas dinner on Saturday, Dec. 23. The meal starts at 6 p.m. at the church, located at 1404 Sixth Street in Victoria. People are asked to come in the side door, across from the post office. Santa and his elves will be there, giving out toys for the children. It’ll be first come, first served until things run out. DECEMBER 24 

CHRISTMAS EVE BY CANDLELIGHT — On Sunday, Dec. 24 at 5 p.m., Victoria Christian Church will hold a candlelight service where you can sing carols and hear the beloved Christmas story that proclaims Jesus as the Light of the World.

CHURCH SERVICES — Bethany Baptist Church, located at 5968 Plank Road in Kenbridge, holds worship services on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Service starts at 11 a.m. and masks are optional. 

CHURCH SERVICES — Victoria Evangelical Presbyterian Church, located at 1419 8th Street in Victoria, will hold worship services each Sunday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. 

CHURCH SERVICES — New Grove Baptist Church is open for in-person morning worship and teleconferences on the second and fourth Sundays at 11 a.m. In-person Sunday School will be held every week at 10 a.m. The call-in telephone number is 301-715-8592. CHURCH SERVICES — New Galilee Baptist Church, located at 4565 Plank Road in Kenbridge, has re-opened its church doors for in-person and teleconference services. These will be held every first and third Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m. Masks are required and people are asked to bring their own Bible. 

CHURCH SERVICES — Oak Grove Baptist Church, located at 127 Oak Grove Road, holds worship services on each first and third Sunday at 11:30 a.m. under the leadership of Rev. Boris Bullock. 

VFW MEETINGS — The VFW and VFW Auxiliary meet at 7 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month at VFW Post No. 9954 in Victoria. The members of the VFW and the Auxiliary share a dinner at 6:15 p.m. prior to the meeting. 

LUNENBURG REPUBLICANS — The Lunenburg Republicans meet the first Tuesday of each month at the La Victoria Mexican Restaurant in Lunenburg at 6 p.m. 

BETHANY BAPTIST CHURCH — Bethany Baptist Church located at 5968 Plank Road in Kenbridge holds in-person services at 11 a.m. on the second and fourth Sundays. Sunday School is every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Bring your Bible. Face masks are optional and social distancing will be practiced.
