A 25-year-old Nottoway County sheriff’s deputy suffered serious injuries after crashing his patrol vehicle in the 8500 block of Courthouse road in Nottoway.

According to State Police, Victoria native Franklin G. Tanner, of Blackstone, who previously served as a Town of Victoria police officer, was “traveling westbound … responding to a call when he ran off the right side of the road in a curve, striking a stump then a tree on the driver’s side of the car.”

The crash was reported Thursday at about 11:28 a.m., State Police said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Tanner, State Police said, was flown by State Police MedFlight to VCU Medical Center in Richmond.

The crash remains under investigation.
