The Lunenburg County Youth Baseball League (LCYBL) Instructional All-Star team has played at a level that has been head and shoulders above most of the competition during the 2018 Dixie Youth Baseball Instructional All-Star District 5 Tournament in Victoria. The Lunenburg boys entered the championship round Tuesday against the Blackstone All-Star team with a perfect 4-0 record after having outscored their opponents 49-6.
The LCYBL All-Stars reached the championship round after defeating the Charlotte County All-Stars 13-1 on Monday.
“We played good,” Lunenburg Manager Brian Nowlin said. “This is probably our best game of the tournament.”
He noted Zack Lafoon had two big hits and several put outs, adding that the entire team hit the ball when needed.
On Sunday, Lunenburg defeated the Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association All-Stars 8-2. Nowlin said his players struggled offensively, but the whole team contributed defensively, led by Chad Mattox, Vaden Liles and Gage Parks.
On Saturday, the LCYBL All-Stars routed Blackstone 14-2, and they opened their run Friday with a 14-1 victory over the Crewe-Burkeville All- Stars.
In the opener, “Amarae Jones hit two really good shots, got an inside- the-park home run,” Nowlin said.
