LGS Belles, Darlings All-Star teams come up short

The Lunenburg Girls’ Softball (LGS) Belles and Darlings All-Star teams were unable to maintain the momentum that they had established going into their championship and semifinal games, respectively, during District 1 tournament play in Dinwiddie on June 26.
The LGS Belles All-Stars had been 2-0, including a 13-4 victory over the Clarksville All-Stars, but second and third meetings with Clarksville in the championship round of the double-elimination tournament led to 7-2 and 14-4 losses for Lunenburg. Clarksville proved to be a strong team on both sides of the ball.
The LGS Darlings faced a challenging South Hill All-Star team June 26 and ended up falling 13-5.
While the Lunenburg Darlings squad — which went 1-2 — fell short of winning the district title, its only losses came to the district champion, the Crewe-Burkeville All-Stars, and the district runner-up, the South Hill All-Stars.
Lunenburg Girls’ Softball will be hosting the 2018 Dixie Softball Ponytails All-Star State Tournament in Kenbridge starting July 13. Ponytails features 11- and 12-year-old girls.
