Kenston Forest School’s varsity football team is making the significant transition from 11-man football to 8-man football this season, but there will be no break in the rivalry with Brunswick Academy as the Vikings have made the same transition.

Kavaliers Head Coach Tom Inge said he has seen some of the Vikings in their new 8-man form during a scrimmage game.

“They look like the same Brunswick Academy, which is they’re big and tough, and they seem to like to run it up the middle a lot, even though it’s 8-man,” he said. “So they just don’t have kind of a power game.” The coach indicated his team will be keying on one of Brunswick’s prominent offensive weapons.

“He’s a quarterback/running back, senior, a really good player,” Inge said. “We’re excited to play against him. He’s going to be one the better players we’re going to see.”

Inge noted Monday evening that Kenston Forest’s team of 14 players was healthy entering the season opener, which will take place Friday at 7 p.m. at Brunswick Academy.

He said he expects the Kenston Forest offense to be well-balanced against the Vikings, but then added that “the only thing I know we are going to do is beat them.”
