Retired Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office investigator Gail Berkley is set to be honored by the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors during Thursday’s meeting at the Lunenburg courthouse.
According to a resolution scheduled to be presented on Berkley’s behalf, Berkley joined the office in 1998, marking her 20th year with the office before retiring Jan. 1.
Berkley, in addition to her responsibilities as an officer, became a school resource officer for Lunenburg Middle School in 2009. Berkley became an investigator in 2014 and served in the role until her retirement.
“She consistently responded with ingenuity, imagination and foresight to the duties of investigator for the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Office,” the resolution cited.
Sheriff Arthur Townsend, in an interview Monday, praised Berkley’s ability to reach and connect with people she encountered in her role.
About Berkley’s retirement, Townsend said, “You hate to lose any of your veterans but I would say it is well-deserved.”
