Lunenburg County will be hosting the largest tournament that Dixie Youth Softball has organized in the District 1 area in over 10 years starting Friday.
“We will need so many volunteers to make this tournament go off good,” Lunenburg Girls Softball Commissioner Tony Matthews said. “If you can at all lend a hand, and you see the time slots are at every part of the day and night, please give me a call at (434) 480-9032. We will try to find a spot that will suit you.”
The tourney will run from Friday to potentially the following Friday, July 22.
There will be 12 Debs All-Star teams coming to Lunenburg on Friday, and they hail from Amelia, Amherst, Appomattox, Blackstone, Buckingham, Crewe-Burkeville, Dinwiddie, Halifax, Piedmont, Powhatan and Prince Edward along with the home team.
“If you want to see some great softball, come on down and take a seat in the stands,” Matthews said. “It will be a great time to promote positiveness in the lives of our children and youth sports in our county.”
The event is also expected to benefit the local economy.
Play will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, with opening ceremonies being held at 4 p.m. on Friday. The Lunenburg All-Stars will play at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
