A Lunenburg County Planning Commission public hearing set for Tuesday will focus on a proposed conditional use permit for a mail-order and home business specializing in Federal Firearm License transfers and repairs.

The hearing will take place on the second floor of the Lunenburg Courts Building at 7 p.m., according to the notice.

The proposed business is owned by Chris Richardson, of Victoria, according to a public notice from the commission.

The primarily mail-order and home business will specialize in Federal Firearm License transfers, used to lawfully transfer a firearm to a buyer, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

The business will also focus on gunsmithing and Cerakote firearm coating, a material that one can apply to guns to prevent corrosion.

If approved, the business would operate approximately 90 percent online, Richardson said.

He said the process for him to receive a Federal Firearm License is contingent on the decision made by the county’s board of supervisors to approve or disapprove the conditional use permit for the business.

He said his application is currently being held by the ATF for consideration.

“It will allow me to be a middleman between the consumer and the ATF because you always have to have someone there to do background checks, and just anybody can’t do it,” Richardson said regarding the license.

The business would operate from Richardson’s residence, which is less than one acre and located in the Plymouth Election District, according to the notice.

Before making a final decision, county supervisors would need to hold a separate public hearing.
