Water leaks close schools

Students at Central High and Lunenburg Middle schools were dismissed at 1 p.m. Thursday due to water outages in Victoria.

Division Superintendent Charles Berkley said water services were interrupted at the two schools “due to a water line break caused by a contractor performing a job in the Town of Victoria.”

Berkley said water had been restored at about 1:30 p.m., but he said schools had been released at 1 p.m., citing the delay of water line repairs and the potential well-being of students as reasons for the closure.

Several water leaks have been reported since work began on an elevated water tank in Victoria in August, which has added increased pressure to the water lines — the alleged cause of the leaks over the past two weeks.
